Fidya vs Kaffarah vs Qada

1. Fidya (Compensation)

For those permanently unable to fast (elderly, chronic illness). It involves feeding one poor person for each missed day.

2. Kaffarah (Expiation)

For major violations (intercourse, intentional eating without excuse). The penalty is fasting 60 consecutive days, or if unable, feeding 60 poor people.

3. Qada (Make-up)

For temporary excuses (travel, curable sickness, menstruation). Check days must be fasted after Ramadan. Fidya cannot replace Qada except in specific rulings.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Difference between Fidya & Zakat al-Fitr?

Fidya is for those unable to fast. Zakat al-Fitr is mandatory for every Muslim at the end of Ramadan to purify the fast.

Can I pay in cash?

The original rule is food, but the Hanafi school allows paying cash value if it's more beneficial for the poor.

Important Note:

This calculator estimates feeding costs. Please check with your local Fatwa council for the exact cash value this year.
