Traditional Taraweeh Dua

The Importance of Dua in the Holy Month of Ramadan

Supplication (Dua) during the month of Ramadan is considered one of the greatest acts of worship through which a servant draws closer to their Lord. It is the month of mercy, forgiveness, and freedom from Hellfire. Allah says: "And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me." In this blessed month, the gates of heaven are opened, and times of acceptance abound, making Dua the believer's unfailing weapon. Fasting softens the heart and humbles the soul, making the servant more submissive and closer to Allah, which is the essence of true worship.

Best Times for Dua Acceptance

Although supplication is encouraged at all times, Allah has blessed certain moments with greater merit:

  • At Iftar: The fasting person has a supplication that is not rejected when breaking their fast. Seize these moments just before Maghrib.
  • The Last Third of the Night: Suhoor time is a time of divine descent, where Allah asks if there is anyone asking so HE may give.
  • Laylat al-Qadr: The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. Supplications in it are undoubtedly answered.
  • Between Adhan and Iqama: Supplication is not rejected between the call to prayer and its commencement.

Etiquette and Virtues of Supplication

To increase the chances of acceptance, one should supplicate with sincerity, certainty, and presence of heart. It is recommended to start by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). A Muslim should be persistent in their request and not be hasty for an answer. Praying for your brothers in their absence is one of the most readily accepted forms of supplication, and the angels say, "And for you the same." Set aside a daily time for supplication and seclusion with Allah, for the days of Ramadan pass quickly.

Virtues of Morning and Evening Adhkar

Morning and evening remembrances are the Muslim's fortress, protecting them from evil and bringing blessings to their day. In Ramadan, the reward for remembrance is multiplied, and hearts are more prepared to receive the light of faith. Maintain reciting morning Adhkar after Fajr and evening Adhkar before sunset to be under Allah's protection throughout your day.

We ask Allah the Almighty to accept our good deeds and to count us among those He frees from the Fire in this holy month.
