It purifies the fasting person from idle talk and feeds the poor so they don't have to beg on Eid day.

Who Must Pay?

Every Muslim who possesses enough food for the day and night of Eid. The head of the household pays for themselves and their dependents.

Amount & Type

• Type: One Sa' of staple food (Rice, Flour, Dates).
• Weight: Approx 2.5 to 3 kg.
• Cash Option: Majority say food strictly. Hanafis and some modern scholars allow cash value if it is more beneficial for the poor.

Timing

• Best: Eid morning before the Eid prayer.
• Permissible: 1-2 days before Eid.
• Forbidden: Delaying until after Eid prayer (it becomes normal charity, and the person is sinful).
